Towards the end of February, Esports Youth Club teamed up with the local Brixton Topcats basketball organisation to provide a night of NBA2k22 competitive gaming for the squad and their friends. A mixture of players, coaches and friends and family all attended an evening consisting of young people of all abilities and ages battling it out to see who would be crowned the NBA2k22 champion and leave the evening with a handy £50 Footlocker voucher.
As players and coaches from Brixton Topcats turned up to International House to play, as did our good friend Frankie Ward whose best known for her commentary work on the international esports stage, as well as co-hosting the show Gamesmaster on E4. Frankie also brought along with her some bonus prizes for the players on the evening – various items collected throughout her huge experiences within the esports scene. With help from Frankie we were able to provide some amazing prizes throughout the evening such as a bomber jacket, various PC accessories, t-shirts and more – all themed around gaming. Frankie was able to chat to some of the young people on the evening about their own gaming interests and offer some insight into the world of esports.
Us founders at EYC had an amazing evening as the night progressed and we watched the games unfold in front of us. The final was a tense and upbeat game that was end-to-end right to the final whistle. Huge congratulations to the winner on the evening and also a big shoutout to the runner-up and all the competitors who kept playing right till the end. The winner received a £50 footlocker voucher, and the runner up received a copy of the new NBA2k22 game.
This event was an amazing mixture of competitive gaming and casual socialising and we had wonderful feedback from the coaches and players at the end of the night. Safe to say we had a fantastic evening and can’t wait to see what sort of events we can host going forward, with Brixton Topcats, NBA2k22 and further beyond.
To wrap things up, EYC would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who enabled this event to happen. To Frankie for attending with so much goodness, to Brixton Topcats for bringing such a good vibe, to Winston & 3Space at International House for the space and to NBA2k for the games.
