We’re excited to share that Esports Youth Club has secured three years of funding and support from BBC Children in Need, enabling us to launch a brand-new weekly Esports Youth Club session in the London Borough of Merton. This support has allowed us to begin delivering free, high-quality youth provision centred around gaming, something the council had hoped to introduce but had struggled to progress from a funding perspective.
A Successful Launch at Pollards Hill Library
Our sessions officially began at Pollards Hill Library in Mitcham earlier this month on the 7th of November, and the response from young people, families and the local community has been overwhelmingly positive. We were honoured to welcome several special guests at our opening event, including the Mayor of Merton, Cabinet Members, and councillors from across the borough. Their enthusiasm highlighted the growing recognition of esports as a powerful tool for youth engagement and development.
Local interest has been strong, with young people from the surrounding neighbourhoods eager to get involved. Many attendees have already experienced gaming equipment they’ve never had access to before, one of the key aims of our programme.
Why This Matters for Merton’s Young People
Esports Youth Club exists to create safe, supportive and inspiring spaces for young people.
With the help of BBC Children in Need, we’re now able to offer:
Free weekly sessions for 11–18 year olds in Merton
Access to new gaming and esports technology
A safe place to spend Friday evenings
Opportunities to meet new friends, build confidence and develop positive social skills
Guidance from experienced youth workers who ensure every session is welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable
The council has expressed strong support for our presence in Merton, recognising that esports can help address gaps in youth provision and offer young people new opportunities at a time of significant need.
Join Us Every Friday
Our Merton Esports Youth Club runs every Friday from 4–6pm at Pollards Hill Library. The club is completely free, and open to all young people aged 11–18 living in and around the borough.
